Default action question

I measured from the fretboard to the bottom of the low e string at the twelfth fret and I have a touch more than an eight inch. Can someone tell me if it's normal, can it be lowered without too much buzz? Is there a better way to measure it to determine if the action can be lowered?

Frets can vary in height, so your fretboard to string height is not the place to measure.
In order for anyone to give you help, you need to measure the distance between the top of the fret and the bottom of the string.

thats just for starters.....many other variables come into play with regard to setting the action to suit you.
