Default Any Pickleball Players out There?

Silly name but this game has taken over my life. Played tennis for 30+ years, but never played another game of it after my first pickleball game. Now I'm at it for 3 hours almost every day (singles and doubles). A lot of my fellow players echo the same opinion of how addicting the game is and how they can't wait to get back out on the court.

The good news is that I'm in best shape than I've been in for many years and my resting heart rate has gone down from the 60s to 48 now.

Anyone else out there addicted to this thing?

Yes, I like Pickleball, play on occasion since retiring in 2012 when wintering in SW Florida, lesser so when at my home in Ontario, Canada, but by no means am I addicted. I do understand why players very much enjoy the game as they do and why it can be seen as an addiction...with healthy benefits!

When in Florida, many of my friends are addicted and talk about the game a lot...so much so that as a songwriter, I couldn’t help myself but to write a simple, catchy novelty ditty titled...wait for it...”The Pickleball Song”. I get asked to play it often at community gatherings and it always goes over well where others have learned the words and sing along to the chorus.

Below is a link to a very primitive recording I made. Hope you get a kick out of it.

I’ve also included the lyric. The first two lines of the chorus actually speaks to the addictive nature of the sport...the fact that many start playing on a whim, then find themselves somewhat consumed by it. There are numerous game terms, e.g. “kitchen” is a zone on the court; “dink” is an aspect of back and forth volleying.

The Pickleball Song (c)

(Chorus)
I didn't choose the Pickleball life
The Pickleball life chose me
I'm at home on the court
It's my favorite sport
It's the Pickleball life for me

(Verse)
I've perfected my grip, serve with plenty of zip
Hit the sweet spot most of the time
I stay in ready position, in and out of the kitchen
And know how to play the lines

(Chorus)
Oh, I didn't choose the Pickleball life
The Pickleball life chose me
I'm at home on the court
It's my favorite sport
It's the Pickleball life for me

(Verse)
Singles or doubles, causes no trouble
With a partner I'm always in-sync
Keep driving the net, and build up a sweat
I love to rally, lob, smash and dink

(Chorus)
Oh, I didn't choose the Pickleball life
The Pickleball life chose me
I'm at home on the court
It's my favorite sport
It's the Pickleball life for me

Yeah, I'm at home on the court
It's my favorite sport
It's the Pickleball life for me
Yeah, it's the Pickleball life for me
