RIP Howie Meeker (NHL)
Howie Meeker passed away today at the age of 97. He won the Stanley Cup as a player with the Maple Leafs, coached, and was also a GM. He had a long broadcasting career for Hockey Night in Canada. That's where I know him from and I can still hear his voice.
RIP Howie. |

Larry - I was hoping you'd chime in. Howie won the NHL's Rookie of the year in 1947 (Calder Trophy). Won the Stanley Cup in '47, '48, '49, '51. I didn't realize this until I checked out his wiki page. Howie was a Member of Parliament (i.e. Congress) for the Conservatives in '51-'52 while he was still playing for the Leafs. |

I sure remember Howie as a broadcaster and was aware of his illustrious career as a player. I can hear his unique voice in my head right now. He sure lived a long and accomplished life. RIP, good sir!

A great Canadian, can't count the number of times I've heard him.
Big loss to the hockey world. RIP Howie.
