Default Tone Dexter with carbon fiber guitar?

Has anyone used a Tone Dexter with a carbon fiber guitar? If so, what were the results?

The basic premise of the Tone Dexter is to make a guitars pick up system sound the same as the guitar being mic'd. So I can't see why it would not do the same job on a CF guitar? It seems like a very specialised bit of kit. I can't think where I would need one? As I'd just mic' or if I used my ust in a band situation I'd just use a cheap ust "calmer" like the ADi-21, which works just fine for me.

Yes, I use a Tonedexter with a carbon fiber, Emerald X20, equipped with a Schatten HFN undersaddle pickup. I made the Tonedexter model using a Shure 58 microphone, and the results sound very good to me. With the newer software the Tonedexter can also kill feedback.

In retrospect, I would guess that the Tonedexter would also have worked with the original Baggs Element pickup, but I had changed to a K&K and then to the Schatten before the TD came along.

I have a LR Baggs VoicePrint (ToneDexter competitor) and have created voiceprints for my Emerald X20 and X30 as well as my Composite Acoustics Cargo and GX. They all sounded much better with the VoicePrint. My goal is to be able to record any of these carbon fiber guitars without microphones since I do not have a good environment for microphone recordings right now.

I used a Tonedexter on my X7 Nylon with a Schatten HFN and a dpa 4000 mic to train. It definitely seemed to work

I have a Rainsong OM that I put a Barbera pickup in. I have trained it with a mic on the guitar, and that worked ok. But since I have other similar-sized guitars that sound better with the same pickup, I also tried using a wavemap created with the other guitar, and that sounded better.

I'd be curious to see a demo of an Emerald with the (Tone Dexter-like) HyVibe system. Alistair discusses one such guitar in this week's shipping video. There are demos of the HyVibe system available on YouTube.

My Composite Acoustics GX actually came from the factory with a built-in Fishman Aura pickup, with 6 images creates specifically for the GX. A ToneDexter or any other IR processor should work just as well with a carbon fiber guitar as any other.

Is it work that way? I'm thinking of the similar way of using the tone dexter too

Yes, it works well. James May has a demo on their site, if I recall of creating a wavemap with a regular nylon string guitar and then applying it to a Yamaha Silent guitar with the same pickup. Same idea.

Talking Barry’s new Emerald

I have an Emerald X30-12 with the Hyvibe on order. Hope to see it in a few weeks. Currently using an Ovation Adamas ME 12 through Logic. Hope to achieve similar results without all the tech and with the built in looper offers a lot of creative possibilities. Can hardly wait!
