Hi Mike, just wondering if you’ve ever tried a Waterloo WL-14X ?

Not as versatile as a Martin 000-18 but has a fantastic V neck with possibly the sound you’re looking for.

You were asking about a 0-15 all mahogany couple weeks back. Whatever happened with that or is it too small/too boxy sounding ?

Additional info on the Custom Authentic I mentioned earlier; if you don't care for the ubiquitous Martin MLO profile, my 000-28 CAA has a really comfortable Mod V neck. It's not pronounced, but has a rounded V (a bit lower at the nut and progressively more V as you move up). Note the Aged version has rolled edges and frets, which gives a well-broken-in feel.

I am not terribly fussy about guitar necks, but like the Mod V a great deal - it's very similar to my 1944 00-18. With that said, it may mean the Collings JL would be close in profile.

Thanks Jim, definitely checking out (the few) 000-18GE out there.

Martin has begun producing the 000-28 Custom Authentics, which use Authentic bracing and thinner tops (and finish) than standard. They do have an adjustable truss rod. I have been told the -18 variants will be coming after the initial RW versions are out a while.

If my CA 000-28 Aged is any indication, they will sell briskly and new models / woods will follow. Highly recommended.
Thanks, I had looked into these 000-28s, but passed as I prefer mahogany b/s - I had also hear they likely will expand their offerings and will keep an eye out, though it will probably be a while.

If you have the chance to test a Boucher, I think you will be buying one. They are amazing. I would be playing one too but it was just a bit over my budget....but I still want one

Happy hunting
Thanks - I have heard of Boucher but never played one, will take a look.

I don't own a 000-18 GE, but I did search for one. Along the way I stumbled across a Martin OM-18 CS (Adirondack soundboard) for sale on this site. I figured this was fairly close. So far I really like it. It has a much thinner neck, very similar to the 000-18 standard that I owned. What differentiates the OM from the my D-18 GE is that the OM has better string clarity. IMO, GE's are great, but they lack some string clarity, which can be a good thing if you play some blues. The scale length on the OM is 25.4" though.

I'm also a big fan of Huss and Dalton and own two of their dreadnoughts. You might want to check out their 000-SP or 000. They have 24.9" scale lengths.

Thanks, the 000-SP is on my list.

Thanks Brendan and funny you should bring up Waterloo - I actually just pulled the trigger on a WL-14 MH (all hog) that arrives this week, got a very good deal on it. It will likely be a go-to for the rootsier blues stuff I play, but I'm still focused on a 000-18 type as I miss the Martin tone and feel that it will be a bit more diverse than the Waterloo.

Huss & Dalton 000 or 000 SP (slot head) would be at the top of my list. I have the 00 version (same scale but slightly smaller body size) and it is a fantastic guitar. I preferred it to my Martin Custom 00-18V, which I sold. IMO a very underrated company
