Default Help me pick an Emerald 12 string

The price difference between an X7 and X20 12 string is $100, with the X30 being another $100.
I finger pick mostly in open tunings and play slide.

Differences in sound between them?
Leaning towards black with no veneer, but I was wondering if anyone has seen the inlays in person.
Thanks!

I'd go with the X20-12 (and recently did). I previously owned an Emerald X30 and found its tone to be too boomy; but on a 12-string, it might be just right. Emerald's veneers are very nice, but it's up to you to decide if it's worth the uncharge...

I got my x30-12 early Feb. and have already gone through a set of Elixirs. No regrets here and that’s after playing an Adamas for the last 20 years. I got the Hyvibe system and it makes this instrument sonically stunning! That matches the visual candy they produce at Emerald. If you can afford it-go ahead and trick it out. Get what you want. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve an X20-12 and love the sound, quiet, loud, clean sounds, holds its own in jams and sounds great amplified (mine has a K&K Power Duo active internal) I use it for finger style, picking, and strumming. No boomy bottom, a lot does depend on the strings you use - I use D’Addario EJ37’s

I have an x20-12. The inlays are very subtle on mine.

The x7-12 appeared after I owned the X20 and I am intrigued by that one. The x7 does so well sound-wise that I suspect sound is not a real compromise. I have played a small Collings 01 12-string and really enjoyed it, but I have not touched an x7-12... yet.

I’m going back and forth between the X7 and X20. I was thinking X30 initially but I often play with the guitar on my left leg which seems to be a problem with the X30. That and I use open tunings which might be too much boomy with the 30.

I agree the inlays are subtle. Anyone have the inlays in white?
If it’s a choice between inlays or veneer I’d probably go veneer.

I found the gold and silver inlays to be too subtle for my taste. I went with white knots on my X-20. They don't jump out at you but are easily visible.

I got silver rings on my Amicus. Subtle, yes, but by no means invisible.IMG_1421.jpg

After all the hand wringing, I ended up putting an X30 on hold.
They had a plain Jane black one in stock.
I like the sound of it the best in the videos but can’t rely totally on that.
I figure I have the weekend to decide.
Just wondering if an X7 or X20 would get played more just for the comfort factor

Add a plain Amicus to it to assuage further hand wringing. They're fun and qualify as a 12-string also. Both ends of the spectrum are satisfied.
