About the closest I have found are some small body, round soundhole archtops which tend to exhibit a bit more of the fatness of an acoustic.

Actually John's guitars encompass the best of both: You won't find a flattop that projects like an archtop, and it's a rare archtop that has flattop-like sustain. John's do.
