Thanks for both of these: I think everyone is perhaps a "Country Boy" at heart. These made me smile - and who else could get Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell in the band and not get upstaged?

Another little-known fact for a lot of folks: he wrote Leaving on a Jet Plane which was a big hit for Peter, Paul and Mary.

That was the only song I ever saw him play the fiddle on, I kind of get the impression he learned to play that one and that was it haha. He looks like he is thinking pretty hard when he is playing.
Leaving on a Jet Plane was his break out hit. He first started touring after that song. He played at a local high school when I was too young to go, but the sign said Writer of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" in big letters and in small letters at the bottom it said "John Denver" lol!

Funny this was posted, we just got home from seeing a JD tribute act at a local place. Great show, first time hearing live music, other than my own, in a long time.
