Celebrating Summer: Your Favorite Summer Songs
Grew up two blocks from a legendary Brooklyn pizza-&-spumoni place, looked like a New York-flavored version of American Graffiti on any given summer evening: hot rods, Tri-Five Chevys, tailfin Cadillacs, girls in summer dresses, guys singing doo-wop under the tree on the street corner, birthday/graduation/sweet-16 parties taking place under the colored lanterns in the outdoor garden - and of course the soundtrack coming over the PA, supplied by WMCA/WABC/WINS radio and interspersed with customer announcements ("Dominick and Rosalie, your pie is ready")...
In answer to the original question, pretty much anything on Top 40 radio before Fall '65..,.

I’m going out on a limb here because 1) it’s completely different from the music previously listed and 2) there is no guitar in this music, but growing up for me, the soundtrack to my summers was “SUMMERTIME” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince

How about a little classical?
Midsummer Night's Dream Scherzo (Great performance!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHTV3GFyHfM and Midsummer's Intermezzo- which is the most evocative of a midsummers night I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuLEwrLWb78 |

OK, I'm learning it!
During my run this morning, I kept singing ''Darling Be Home Soon''. I came home and printed out the lyrics, although I already seem to know them all, and I'll get to work on it later! |

Here is a bit different take for a summer song - Cheryl Wheeler's "Summer's Almost Over".

I'm enjoying this thread as well. Yesterday, it caused me to dust off the lyrics of "Under the Boardwalk." Such a great song for a baritone like me, I can't believe I haven't performed it for so many years.

Seals and Croft's "Summer Breeze" immediately comes to mind. Others that I like:
Summertime Blues Summer the City Summertime (So many great versions of this with Janis leading the pack IMHO) Good Vibrations (Not really a "summer" song but just says summer to me) The Girl from Ipanema Penny Lane That Summer Feeling by Jonathan Richman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_jRDVStzOY |

"Summer Breeze," "Summer of '69" and "All Summer Long" first came to mind, and they've been listed already. Then, I thought of one not listed so far..."Beach Baby," by The First Class. Always loved the horn part.
