who does Guild neck resets?

I live in central Mass. Neither one of the repair guys I use will reset a vintage Guild neck. Too hard to remove the glue and troublesome finish issues after teh neck is removed. I told one of them I don't care about the finish but it is his reputation...

so...

who can do it and do it well?

You need to find a luthier not a guitar tech, unfortunatley I am in australia, but they are no harder than any other guitar.

Like Steve said you need to find a luthier over a tech.

I've done them before but I'm not in your area. They have some unique challenges and if you don't care about the finish then you'll be fine. I would not trust someone who hasn't done a few already before with the job. Easy to crack the heel on these.

I do. I'm in East TN.
Guilds are very similar to Gibsons with the wide heel. They are more work than Martin resets, because the thin heel is glued to the sides, and because the neck and body are finished together.

I've done a few of them. I'm not opposed to doing them but they can be a PIA. The heels break easily but even that is easy to fix. Maybe keep looking around in your area or in Boston perhaps? Shipping will add another $200 to your cost. But if have to ship it then send it to John and it will get done right.

Another fun fact on Guild, in addition to their gluing the entire heel to the top, is that they never changed their glue pots - they just kept adding new hide glue to what was left in the pot, so the resulting mix apparently made for unusual types of adhesion. Or so I've heard. It is for these reasons that I've heard Guild resets are more difficult than others. No personal experience.

I appreciate the offer for your business but my shop is too busy to take mailed in repairs. If you get with John Arnold on a reset you'll be just fine.

I've done a few some time ago.... the biggest issue as I recall was dulling my chisels.... the wood was SO dense... definitely a PIA....
