You should add the Boss Katana MKII 50 to that list. All those amps are direct competitors with similar features. It comes down to which one recreates the tones you’re looking for. Sorry, wasn’t much help.

I have a Code 50 and an older Fender Mustang (III V1)

IME fender does "Cleans" a bit better, but not to say the Code can't or won't b/c it will and does. It just the Fender has more models that are leaning to clean. (Princeton, Twin, etc)

The Code can be run from your Android or iPhone (using the Marshall Gateway App and the built in Bluetooth) This is a pretty cool feature.

in the two I have, they are both comparable with one another mostly.. I'm not familiar with the newer Mustangs.

Boss Katana is not technically classed as a modelling amp as I understand it. The other 2 are.

The Katana is definitely a modeling amp.

Debatable. It is not allowing you to have the sound of a thousand different amps like a pure modelling amp.

One more vote for the Fender GTX50. I have a Fender Mustang III which has been great. But I'm probably going to upgrade to a GTX100, which has tons more features and voices and more control via bluetooth. Good luck in your quest.

To my understanding, a modeling amp is a solid state amp with digital samples of tube amps. Some like Fender’s mustang series tries to model their own tube amps, with some other generic models like “crunch” or “metal”. The Katana is definitely a modeling amp, even though it has generic presets of “brown” “crunch” etc. it still does try to model tones of tube amps. Cool thing about this age of modeling amps is their online connectivity. You can download tones from other users or create your own and make that $250 box as versatile as a huge multi-thousand dollar rig.

Same job? yes more or less. Sound the same ? likely not.
I am guessing the definition of "modeling amp" is more subjective than objective .
Personally I have to agree with the Katana being a type of "modeling amp", given in the several definitions of Modeling amp I googled, there was no numerical qualification for the number of different sounds available . Only that originally analog circuitry and now more DSP is used to emulate different amps , speakers, tubes, etc.

You don't seem to understand what "amp modeling" means. The Katana attempts to recreate the sound of other amps where the key characteristics of those amps have been captured by, and are played through, digital technology. It is a digital modeling amp. There is nothing to debate. The fact that it models 5 core amps and lets you layer effects on those models rather than having a palate of 100 or so presets (amp + effects together) is meaningless.

Default Thank you all

I don't know how, but I completely missed the Boss Katana 50 MKII in my search for something stronger than my Micro Cube GX.
This (Katana) will probably be my next amp. and it doesn't matter that it is the cheapest of the 3

It is an extremely popular amplifier and gets great reviews... I don't personally own one, but I have read on this forum that a number of folks here on AGF own and like them.

... and on the other hand, I only use "Acoustic Sim" and "JC Clean" types on my Cube, så maybe I should focus on which amp. is "better" for Cleans ...

Use google. I'm just telling you what I have read in terms of comments that are out there. It is a different product than a lot of them out there. I know it does modelling to a degree.

Some, more than a few, out there are calling it a solid state amp with effects...

https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discu...-modelling-amp

It's a bit grey compared to the average "modelling amp"...

I have no horse in this race. I'm personally more interested in amp profilers than I am in modellers...Kemper... ;-0

I will say this...Positive Grid’s Bias FX 2 is doin’ some serious modelling. I’ve got over 100 different amps being modelled from my IPad Pro. Fun little piece of software. Gettin’ it done for now.
