Default Did you watch McCartney 3 2 1 Documentary?

Just finished watching the entire McCartney 321 documentary. It was really interesting! Paul is a genius!

Really good. And Rick Rubin was an inspired choice by, well, whoever it was that chose him.

I loved Rubin's enthusiasm too.

Genius? Well, the isolated tracks -- and well, the slightly successful career, testify to that certainly, but one thing I drew from it was how many of the neatest parts were recalled as more or less spur of the moment ideas and decisions. That last story was repeated over and over with examples of the results.

Is that one part of McCartney's genius, that ability to come up with interesting stuff off the cuff? Or do we all have it, or some poor cousin of it, and damp it down with the idea that real art requires extensive examination of options and top down thinking to get "the good stuff."

Just binge watched this amazing series, now I'm really looking forward to Peter Jackson's 'Get Back'.

in episode 1 they played a clip of Jimi Hendrix playing 'Sgt Pepper'', I was standing just to the left of Hendrix at the front of stage. it was 1967 at the Olympia in London, I was 17, seeing that made this series even more special.

Wonderful stuff. To hear one of the greats discuss each bit, as if it was sourced from daily musical interaction. Rick Rubin was quite good at picking out portions of songs to address. I really liked it.

Loved this series, and hearing bits of the multitracks.
