Default Baby Taylor action

Hi everyone.

I’m sure this question has been asked and answered 100 times so sorry if this is repetition, but I’ve recently acquired a Baby Taylor BT1e (which I think is extremely impressive) but I do find the action a little high.

I’ve measured more than 4mm at the 12th fret whereas I’d usually look for around 2.5mm on acoustics.

The neck relief is as recommended and I’ve checked the nut by capo-ing at 3rd and measuring at the first fret, which also seems fine. I wondered if a higher action is simply to be expected for a travel guitar or if the bridge might need some attention.

Could any Baby Taylor owners please share their own string height for comparison?

Thanks.

Someone brought me a Baby Taylor with the bridge coming off, that can cause high action, you may want to check.

The Baby has the simple bolt on neck, so "resetting" is quick and easy. Small changes in string height over the 12th are accomplished by saddle lowering. Youtube has lots of videos about the process, here's one.

The BT has a very short scale. The higher action might be required given the reduced string tension. It is in a class of its own...
