K&K Pure Mini w/ Pre-phase
I went to a luthier to replace my ES2. The shop told me that 9 out of 10 folks get the K&K Pure Mini with Pre-phase. I asked what about the most basic one and he said that only 1 in 10 get it. I am confused. All the research that I did said get the most basic one with no pre-phase but why are people in real life getting the one with pre-phase instead?

I have several of the K&K Mini's in different guitars. Only one Ultra Pure which has the built in on board preamp, phase switch, EQ mix, and volume slider. I like them both but typically prefer to not have a 9 volt battery inside my guitars. I use K&K's Pure XLR Preamp with the passive mini's and have excellent results. The Ultra Pure is nice but is certainly not necessary? If properly installed the K&K mini has a fairly hot signal and I have plugged straight into my acoustic amp but the preamp gives you more control and headroom to spare.

Wow! Thanks for starting this thread...I didn't even know this pickup existed!
Based on the price, if the on-board preamp is at all decent, this is a great value!

K&K
I use the basic one without specifically because I won't have to worry about a battery in the guitar.

OP Here
So what is this called? The Ultra Pure? Or is this just an add-on? I wonder if the sound will be different from the K&K Pure Mini. Last edited by Rudals; 10-09-2017 at 07:55 PM. |

K&K Pure Mini + Pre-phase
I asked this yesterday but just want to pick at the brains of members who know or have this.
I am replacing my ES on my Taylor and I am getting the K&K Pure Mini + Pre-phase. Why is the prephase necessary? |

I've sold a little over 12,000 Pure Minis. I've sold exactly 13 Pure Mini w/PrePhase. So, most folks defnitely buy the pickup by itself. But, if the shop is recommending the Pre-Phase often, then their stats would make sense. It's a good little unit, and I'm surprised more people don't take advantage of the onboard juice.

It's really what I call a "phase" switch. Most preamps will have them as well as the on board "barn door" type pickups. And many acoustic amps will have a phase switch as well. My Fishman does. It reverses the phase. And while I'm no expert it has to do with canceling feedback and being "in-phase" I suppose with the space you're in? If you switch it back and forth one position will sound better and that's the one you want. Maybe someone who knows all the technical info will chime in here...
