Default Help me settle on a DAW

I have had audacity for years and used it just bit to move vinyls to mp3. I just bought a Scarlett 2i2 and it came with downloads for pro tools first and Ableton live. I will be using this to record just my stuff and I am not a hugely competent software guy, so which should I key in on as the DAW that I spend time learning?

If I were starting from scratch, knowing what I know now, I would use Reaper. It's the most efficient DAW sold and very flexible, meaning you can get it to look many different ways.

Just start with their default design and learn it first. Try it out for free for 30 days, but it's one of the most affordable DAWS you can get. In spite of the low price, it's just about as fully featured as any of them.

I have used Ableton Live for years. Works great.

Sonar Platinum formerly of Calkwalk is now a free download
Scrool down for the link
https://bedroomproducersblog.com/201...-bandlab-free/

It does not come with all the after market plug ins but it does have some powerful applications. A bit of a learning curve but there are loads of vids on YouTube vids that go over the basics to the more advanced stuff

I can't see why anybody in the Windows world wouldn't jump on this deal. I can't believe they are giving it away for free, and I am running this version on one of my laptops and it works great!

Even thought I am a dyed in the wool Pro Tools guy I would forgo PT First. It is so limited in storage options as to be kind of a joke

Personally I think it is sixes I think Ableton Live, Bandlab/cakewalk Sonar Platinum (if on windows) or Reaper would all serve you fine. All are going to be a learning curve (But having worked in Audacity will give a basic understanding of the general process ) And it will be a matter of learning the particular nomenclature, workflow, an GUI of a new DAW BUT I am guessing once you get into any of them, you will begin to see a fast improvement in features and workflow over Audacity. Just my opinion

I'm running three programs, BandLab's Cakewalk, PreSonus Studio One Version4 and Adobe's Audition CS6. This is in case one program doesn't work the other one's will. This works out very well for me. Currently all programs are working good.

Mac or PC?

What are your recording goals. Just recording solo acoustic guitar and vocals? Or are you thinking about more complex one man band kind of arrangements?

Will you be using (or think you may be using) MIDI keyboards with this or just audio recording?

What do you think of Cakewalk?

Cakewalk Sonar is my choice for its stability, sound quality and plethora of features. I also own and like Presonus Studio Pro.

Of all the programs mentioned,if you're working in Windows... Sonar was the only one totally developed in Windows, and in my opinion other than Protools or perhaps Logic (another fine DAW) Sonar is the best choice for features, especially the ProChannel which features a really good 1176 comp sim, a 4 band fully parametric EQ, console emulation, and c'mon, it's FREE, and it's totally ready for professional results.
