Default Firefox problems?

Hi, on my lap top and sometimes on my desktop - Firefox is unusable.

I am frequently unable to access AGF as it times out. I've got a good net speed and reasonably fast machines (8 gb RAM in both).

My IT man says that Microsoft has downloaded something on Windows 7 and 10 to make using open source browsers more difficult - hence my imminent transfer to a Mac book.
I am really getting too tired with Microsoft's way of working.

Anybody else having the same issues?

Posting this from Firefox on Windows 10. No issues here. Is Firefox on Windows the only browser giving you trouble accessing the AGF?

Worst on Firefox, but I do get outages on the AGF more than I used to. I can only access it on chrome really.

I'm fine too, from a Desktop and a Laptop running W10.

My problem w/Firefox is it has a crappy print functionality.

No regrets De-Googlizing. Use Duck Duck Go for search too.

This does not make sense. I was dropped on my head frequently as a child so I want to make sure I understand your problem properly.

Are you are using Firefox on a Macbook and having difficulty or a desktop & laptop running Windows?

Regardless, there are a few things you can try and make sure that it's not something that's out of your control (your Internet provider for instance). Be sure you have the latest version of Firefox. Download and install another browser such as Google's Chrome. If the problem goes away, it may be one of the 'add-ons' that you have installed on Firefox. (Chrome can have similar problems, but with a brand new install, that would rule that problem out.)

If the problem goes away, start disabling the Firefox add-ons. You can go one-by-one if you'd like, or disable half… just be methodical.

I'm using Firefox on a MacBook Pro with no problems.

In the past I used Firefox all the time but sometime ago it started having issues loading web sights that I went to. I'd have to retry to load them two, three and four times. I got tired of that and switched over to the one windows wanted me to use.

Hi Andy,

I saw you have a post about some Firefox issues, and noticed that you had not mentioned, nor has anyone else mentioned as Yet, the ‘Firefox-REFRESH’ procedure from Mozilla.

I have used ‘this’ particular procedure of a ‘Firefox-Refresh’ from within or onto the Browser itself. (as opposed to just restarting/refreshing the browser on your PC).

Yes, I have had some of the same similar issues you speak of..
Noting, I am not a computer expert, though this procedure made 'my' computer noticeable very functional again, without issues.

For me, this ‘Refresh’ procedure helped my Firefox performance issues significantly w/ Excellent Results.

I will include a ‘link’ to this procedure w/ some explanations, from Mozilla Firefox.. (if you haven't already tried this prior)

* I would suggest, read some of the Info, of what the ‘Refresh’ will do here, (and not do), before initiating the procedure, just to get what you will be involved, if you have not performed this procedure prior.
(*This has always worked PERFECTLY for me Every time, so far. (fwtw).

The Blue-shaded-Box 'Refresh Firefox' will start the procedure.

*Noting - Firefox WILL SAVE these items:
• Bookmarks
• Browsing and download history
• Passwords
• Open windows and tabs
• Cookies
• Web form auto-fill information
• Personal dictionary

(this ‘Refresh’ procedure has ALWAYS saved all these above items for me, on the Restart!, fwtw)

* Noting: Firefox Extensions and extension data will be removed w/ this ‘Refresh’ procedure.

Though, any or all of these can Easily be Added back into your Firefox browser.. (I will try to add a ‘link’ to this as well).. > https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/ <
*(I don’t use very many of these myself though)

I DO use some of these ‘Icons’ to customize Tabs in the ‘Tool-bar’.

Fwiw, I also use ‘Chrome’ occasionally, w/ No issues… .. (MS ‘Windows-Explorer’ has Always been the Very Slowest, and w/ issues for me in the past.. Haven’t used in a Long Time.. (Even when the ‘Netscape-Navigator’ browser was available, it was still SO much better than MS IE for me. (fwtw)..  )

Andy, I am not sure this will work for your issue/problems, though I can’t see personally where it will be detrimental or cause any loss to any of your saved Data.. I hope some of this info will help.

IF you haven’t found a Solution yet, maybe this ‘Refresh’ procedure will Work for you.. (Considering you have already tried this Prior).

FWIT, I am using an older Desktop PC, w/ windows 7-Pro OS too. I also have 8mb Ram.. w/ a somewhat fast quad-core 2.60 GHz Processor, (still works well for a 9 or 10 year old used machine). w/ the original dual-hard drives as built in. I also have an upgraded Faster Xfinity Internet service now too.

Related-Info on Microsoft Updates - I Only select the new MS updates myself Manually, generally just the Security ‘Updates’.. my machine is still working fine so far… (it Does slow down a bit with 200 or 300 or more ‘Tabs’ open at a time though! Haa.. ..(though for awhile now, I just ‘Bookmark all Tabs” to a folder, and start a fresh New Session, and All is Well and Fast again!! 

Andy, I haven’t talked to you in awhile.

I hope You are doing well since your ‘throat-treatments’ and procedures.
I have a few ‘internal’ health issues, w/ 2 more appointments soon, will see soon enough.. (will be age 70 in 13 months)..

I am still active quite a LOT, w/ downsizing & some fair-size house and a Shop add-on renovations, (mainly for organizational purposes & more dry workspace in Shop). (Also, I Am Still playing the 000-12fret, all mahogany Martin, w/ vocals, Everyday!.. though not quite as long at a sitting, as several years ago)

Sorry for long wordy reply.

All the best Andy,
Best regards, Earl

Hi, thanks for the support.

I've looked at my Firefox page and can't find the page/place allowing me to find a refresh option.
I'm using windows7 on my laptop and my desktop, and the problems are on the laptop which I found out last night has 4 mb Ram, not 8 as I had assumed.

Later, I'll check this out on my laptop,

Thanks all,

Andy

And as soon as I sent that last note, I got the usual "network attack" warning which always happens when I click onto AGF, then suddenly the website is unavailable for a few minutes.

Huh?

Oh my Andy,

Definitely different scenario/symptoms that I am familiar with.

Some of my basic setting, fwtw,
* I have my 'Bitdefender' antivirus and Firewall program, All on the Highest Security Setting.

I have also disabled All website 'tracking' on my setting.. (as far as I know)

I am surely not a computer expert, even though having computers a long time.

Also, I have never had a "network attack" warning" notice...
Not sure how that might come-about

Andy, not sure this will help, though to respond to your #10 posting, on Not being able to find/see the Mozilla Firefox 'Refresh-Firefox' page, I will send you a Link directly to the Mozilla Firefox website help-page.

Perhaps you can open a new Tab/Window where this page will 'load'.

Firefox 'Refresh-Firefox' Page 'link' >
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...s-and-settings

There is a Blue-Box on the page, that I am looking at, that starts the Firefox Browser 'Refresh' operation.

This and other stuff your "IT man" has said now and in the past make no sense. When they do make sense it' just seems the guy is some combo of poorly informed with a thing against Microsoft.

At times security settings, allowing Flash or browser extensions (add-ons) can create some grief. Firefox is generally the most compatible of the ones I have to deploy.

My thinking the comments on Windows 7 and Firefox are complete garbage are supported by our having 700+ employees who use that combination for their time, attendance and payroll system. Firefox is the vendor's browser of choice. Most all the problems are user errors. Those show up most with users who have administrative rights to their systems and make poor choices whether or not they realize it.
