BOURGEOIS 00 CUSTOM VARNISH ITALIAN SPRUCE AND MAHOGANY - USED


This is a parlor guitar for the connoisseur. If Stradivarius were commissioned to make a “blues box”, it would sound something like this. The warm, earthiness of the mahogany offers a perfect contrast to the rich, overtone-laden Italian top. It strikes a perfect balance between folksy and ethereal.


Much of the magic resides in the unseen details. For starters, it’s all been put together with hide glue, which although notoriously difficult to work with, allows the instrument to vibrate more freely than modern adhesives. Keeping with this theme, it also has a varnish finish. The old methods may be time intensive, but we keep passing them on because they often yield the best results.


On top of sound, it’s both a looker and a player. The meticulously sprayed sunburst is dark and ravishing, while the tortoise neck binding and vintage white tuners keep it grounded in tradition. The neck has a soft vintage profile and every note rings out loud and clear up the neck. It feels alive.


A short scale guitar of this quality can serve many roles. It’s got enough volume and bass for rhythm and accompaniment, but enough cut and definition for lead.
