Congratulations on the MMV and the compassionate wife. The MMV is one of my favorite dreads and in fact is more akin to the D-15 than the HD-28; same bracing pattern and neck joint as the 15 series but with the main woods used in the 28 series. The best of both worlds IMO as every HD-28 that I try in a Guitar Center is far outshines by the MMVs. To be fair, dead strings are often a factor.
After 20 years together it's become obvious to me that my wife hates guitars and would probably rejoice if I got a set of golf clubs though. :-/

The MMV is a great guitar, in just recently I was debating between that and a D15M. The D15M won though, but primarily because I already have a Spruce/Rosewood guitar.

Congrats! My best friend has one and I always look forward to playing it. Really nice guitars with classic Martin sound.
FYI, 5 gibsons, 4 martins, 2 guilds and a plethoria of other acoustic guitars ago I said this is my last new acoustic guitar when I bought my first new Martin d28 in 1986... Enjoy the chase!

This is one of the best reviews I've read in a long time, not only because I didn't know a thing about this guitar, but also very amusing.

Feel free to steal any witty lines I might deliver. Feel free to borrow the MMV if we ever meet. Hands off my "compassionate wife." Take it easy.

Enjoy your new MMV! I've had mine for 5 years and I love it. I traded in a Taylor 310 for the MMV because I wanted the Martin rosewood dread sound and it delivers. I replaced the stock gold tuners with chrome Grover rotomatics because I like the look of the Grovers. Other than that, everything else is original. Maybe someday I'll trade up to a D28, but until then I'll keep enjoying my MMV!

My wife's MMV sounds better than my mid 70s D28.
I guess that's not saying much but it is a great guitar. |

A month down the road since my review, I have a tightened description of the MMV for those uncomfortable with a non-standard instrument.
So, what do you play? "A Martin rosewood dread." What model is it? "Oh. It's a custom: D-28 woods and finishes, D-15 bracing."

This was funny, informative, and altogether much more interesting than 95% of the posts on this forum. Good form, sir.
And as far as bracing is concerned; you had better brace yourself for this dangerous road down Martin Blvd. You'll find it leads you to the checkout at your local guitar shop more often than not. It's glorious. |

Rich, you are aware that Martin's grading system is cosmetic and that all of their tone-woods can make outstanding guitars, yes? .....Mike
