Love my Sheppard Minstrel Cutaway, Amazon Rosewood with Caucasian Spruce top--amazingly versatile in mixed venues and different styles of music!

Thanks, Glenn! Yeah, it's a great guitar. VERY different from my Borges! You have a African Blackwood Dream Series, right?

I've never played a Sheppard so it looks like I'll be on the lookout!

Thanks for the post. I think you have a new fan!
Thanks so much! There are a lot of incredbile guitars out there. I just want to do my part to document the ones I come across and make sure people are aware of how incredible some of these things are. There's definitely more to the high-end modern voiced guitar world than Jim Olson and Somogyi's Angels.

Thanks again, Mau. Now I just need to get a handle on that compression..

Thanks - I just played a Cedar/EIN Charis yesterday. Really lovely guitar!

Well, gosh! Thanks so much for watching! I'll try to update more often.

Yes, you probably overdid the compression, but through my B & O earbuds, the sound is nice and punchy, with lots of bloom that I'm certain must feel simply thunderous against your chest.

Then there's the focus shifting in and out. Unlike you or some others, I DIG IT!! With a fixed angle shot, it makes the video breathe a bit, and I chose to see it as the camera's way of dancing along to the tune.

Some good takes speak for themselves, and this one speaks volumes. Even if you do another take, don't take this one off the net just yet, bro!
Hah! Well there's something I didn't expect - I've watched the video enough times now (critiquing my performance...) that I dont even notice it as much anymore.

USB Chord, can you please describe the differences between your Sheppard and your Borges?

Everything! The only thing they really have in common is both being 6 string cutaways built by a solo luthier. The Borges is dry...the Sheppard is "wet". The Borges projects the majory of its sound out front, the Sheppard sourrounds the player. The Borges has a focus on clarity and note separation, the Sheppard is more lush and blended. With the experience you have, I doubt anything I'm saying is surprising. It's the classic modern vs. traditional comparison.

Default Lovely Sheppard

I love the sound of Gerald's guitars. Thanks for posting such a nice sounding video. You played that song with a lot of feeling. It reminded me that I wanted to learn that song, Hana. Gorgeous.

I have an Englemann/Brazilian Beneteau concert standard, and I love the sound of that guitar as well. Like your guitar, the Beneteau envelops me in a powerful wash of overtones, but without sacrificing clarity. I described the sound I wanted to Marc, and he suggested Englemann. I'm glad I listened to him. Your guitar is sweeter sounding though, whereas the Beneteau is more woody and earthy.

Congratulations, and great choice picking Cocobolo, one of my favorite woods.

Oh man what a beaut.....engelmann spruce seems to get overlooked and I think it's one of the very best out there. Beautiful playing, too...hard to go wrong with that particular composer.

Marc makes fantastic guitars. Besides the hand full I've come across at various guitar shops, Don Ross passed through town a few months ago and I got to play his mahogany model. It was VERY nice.

I agree - Englemann can be wonderful stuff. The best sounding ones will make you completely forget about the generally broader headroom of other spruces..

I should learn more of Kishibe-san's material one day!

I'm not sure how I missed this the first time around, but all I can saw is WOW!

Every one of Gerald's guitars I've seen has been a work of art - I've only heard a handful of recordings, but they were equally as impressive.

You've got one of those understated elegance guitars there Mr B.....

Hang on to that one!

BTW - I see you've drifted into the wide nut and saddle camp
