Default NGD: Guild F512

Well, I've finally done it! Today I got the guitar which many see as the King of 12 Strings - a Guild F512. I picked it up earlier and am very impressed so far: beautiful workmanship, lovely neck profile (and people say these have chunky necks???), a gorgeous burst, great bass and sustain which goes on forever. It's a 2012 New Hartford example which the original owner had described in his ad as being in ‘as new condition’. He lied: it is an absolutely mint case queen. It's a tad harder to play with fingers than my Huss & Dalton CM12 (though that does have a ridiculously low action), but that's easily fixed. With a pick though, it's an absolute monster. Will have to update you as our relationship grows, but I need to get her out again now!

Thanks to all the great 12 string advice I've had here from many, but especially to Brucebubs and to Glenn, whose excellent yt clips convinced me I had to keep my eyes out for one of these.

Anyway, pictures or it didn't happen:

A few more pics here, but I can't get them to upload separately: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/9nz7...0i1/Guild_F512

Which Factory was this one built in? Normally folks only complain about the thick neck on the Westerly Guitars. During the Tacoma years the neck design changed radically.

This is a New Hartford guitar, so I wasn't expecting it to be clubby, but I have still seen people complain that Guild necks are big. Yes, it's not a Martin Performance or Gibson slim taper, but I don't find it a handful at all.

Thanks for the nice comments folks - will try to do something bout the poor photos tomorrow, as they don't do the guitar justice at all.

That's a beauty !!! The sunburst is gorgeous !!! In 1976 my partner at the time bought a brand new Guild 12 from Redbank Music in NJ . I ran into him in July, he is still playing that guitar, it is 45 years old now, and other than regular use wear and tear on it, there has never been any problems with the guitar, and it looks beautiful and plays and sounds like a dream !!! You done good buddy !!!

I've read several posts that this one is the very best. Congratulations.
Next year, I might buy Guild's Chinese "Westerly" 12 string or Yamaha's LL16 12 string - both with solid rosewood. But a USA Guild is a keeper.

Glenn and Bruce also set me on the right path when I was looking for a 12 string. F512 is a seriously great guitar, congratulations ... that's a beaut!

Cool. The quintessential 12 string and a very good looking example too!

Awesome guitar, I love a Guild 12 string and love a sunburst. If this the same guitar as I was watching on ebay last week then you got it for a killer price as well? Back to dreaming!

Good for you.
I love Guild 12 strings and you now have the best of the best.

Two things have kept me from owning a Guild F-512.
The price and the cost. LOL

Enjoy your beautiful guitar.

I'm flattered to be mentioned in this thread.
That is an absolutely beautiful guitar.
Superb, love it!

A little Guild history regarding the 12-string necks,
- Near the end of the Tacoma period (2004-2008) the dual truss-rod system was replaced with a single rod and 2 support bar system.
- The New Hartford factory upgraded this to a dual action single truss-rod with 2 support bars - they also used their existing CNC machining from Ovation guitar making to shape their Guild necks.
They also swapped 12-string tuners from Grover mini Rotomatic to these very attractive Gotoh open gear. (which Cordoba Guild now sell too!)
