New Guild D-55 Maybe
I've always wanted a Guild D-55. I'm finally going to look at one later today that is listed on Craigslist. It's a 2009 made in New Hartford CT. Is there anything in particular I should look out for with this make and model? Are New Hartford Guilds considered well made? Are there any fake D-55's out there? Any idea what the price should be?

Guilds are great guitars and the quality seems to be good no matter where they are made. Mine was made in Westerly. Can't comment on fakes.

I had a 1990's D-55 and only sold when I bought my F50R. These are amazing guitars. Resonant tone up the wazoo. Great playing necks, at least for my hands. Some folks might lean towards a Hoboken or Westerly but mostly from wanting vintage as opposed to newer. Imo, they are all excellent. Price wise, I found this AGF listing for a 2009 from 2016 at $1800. If were me, I would be trying for under $2000, for sure. Hope you get it and btw gg, I'm also on the 49th Parallel.

My Westerly D-55 is built like a tank. Great for a flat picker/strummer, not so much finger style, but it still sounds nice.

Love Guilds. They drive like a Volvo. The D55 is special. Good luck.

Every Guild factory has its fans. But I know that when I finally go looking for a D-55, the New Hartford factory will be at the top of the list.

New Hartford Guilds all have red spruce bracing. They are noticeably lighter than those made at Westerly.

D-55s can be found under $2000 if you keep your eyes open. As people have mentioned, Guild fans all like different eras of Guild guitars, but even if they have been build in a few factories, for some reason, that have always been consistent, and consistently good. The Hew Hartford ones are right up there. Some consider them the best ones. Generally lighter than their predecessors. Like any acoustic guitar, you should always look for a saddle that is too low, on older models, which often means the neck angle is changing. For the most part, however, Guilds hold up really well.
A 2009 NH model is just about the first year that they were being built there. I have one from 2008, but it's a prototype made for that years NAMM show.

D55's made in New Hartford have tortoise guards and open tuners. All other D55's had black guards and Gold Grover Rotomatics. Some have the D-Tar pickup system
My only gripe about New Hartford Guilds was the high price. They were stellar guitars.

I don't think the D-55 was street priced any higher than a Martin D28. Similar specs.

I love my D-55. It sounds as good or better than my Martin D-35. I have heard great things about the New Hartford Guilds. Anything under $2,000.00 will be a good price for a newer D-55 in excellent condition.

Well, I did it! I bought the 2009 Guild D-55 and after 1 day of checking it out and tweaking a few things I can say that I am very pleased so far. I use it mainly for strumming and it seems to be very good for heavy strumming, which is what I was looking for. Thank you all for replying and giving me the tips and advice.

Beautiful guitar, enjoy it.
The New Hartford Guilds also benefited from the existing CNC machinery already being used in Ovation guitar production at the site.

Here's a peek showing little fret wear. This was off Craigslist. I haven't taken any of my own pictures yet.
