Default Amazon Fire Stick....

I recently joined (rejoined?) the 21st century and got home internet in my woodland cabin, and I feel like a new world has opened up. I pay for Amazon Prime and decided to purchase an Amazon Fire Stick. WOW! I'm in hog heaven (not to be confused with mahogany heaven). As a TV/movie junkie, I'm learning my way around this technology, but would be really curious to hear from other Fire Stick users as to what tricks you've learned about its use. Thanks in advance.....

That's pretty much all we use any more.

We have a couple of them that we mostly use when we're away from home for three months each winter. The rental place we have doesn't have near the TV package we have at home and the Firestick is a lifesaver. At home, we have a couple of smart TVs that get Amazon Prime and most of the other stuff on the Firestick is also easily available elsewhere. But for three months a year, it's mostly what we use...

I have a Smart TV with Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Youtube built in already. But, it's nice to have those options at your fingertips.

Sometimes when I'm feeling spry I'll try to look at everything available on Amazon Prime through the Fire Stick...and eventually give up with a sore wrist from all that remote use. I thought over-the-air TV dredged up a lot of ancient TV programs, but it ain't got nuthin' on Amazon Prime.

No tricks, just been enjoying our Fire Stick for more than a year now. Lots of great "free" (yeah, I pay for membership, but out here in the boonies Prime pays for itself in free shipping quickly) content for Prime members. Enjoy RP!!

I use my Fire Stick a lot with the VideoLan VLC media player app to stream video from my router's shared hard drive or computer to the larger TV screen. Also good for streaming YouTube tutorial videos. Can also use it to play my MP3 music collection.

Missed a show on broadcast/cable stations like ABC, NBC, Fox? I can replay them through my internet connection through their Fire Stick apps. Don't even have to wait 8 days to view if linked to my cable provider's login. Lots of older archived shows too that aren't currently being aired.

Use the Silk Browser to watch the day's Democracy Now news show without having to either record it off the air or view at the limited times it is being broadcast on PBS.

NOTE: You don't even need a TV. You can plug the Fire Stick into a stand-alone computer monitor through an HDMI input & watch. Good & cheap way to watch instrument tutorial videos while practicing.

Get it reprogrammed with Morpheus, Terrarium, Mobdro, and other apps and watch basically anything you like for free.

If you have young grandchildren, the firestick is a godsend having the ability to access all the kid shows and movies they love.

My wife and I were paying about $180 per month for cable and decided to drop that and kept our internet with fires stick which is perfect for us as we rarely turn on the tube unless it is a special show we want to watch, and saved $100 a month.

All of which are of dubious legality. Very little is 'free'.

True. You have to buy the firestick, and pay the programmer.

Take a look at your cable bill, then tell me who is getting robbed.
