Thanks to you, I know about these strings. I could have stopped at the Perlas and Alabastros, and been satisfied for having tried them, but I wouldn't have been sad, if I had left them behind. These Rubinos have a lot of power, too much for both a small Yairi and Rainsong (the bass becomes almost oppressively lush). It's hard for me to believe the clarity and sweetness of the Rubinos when played lightly, their ability to reach a grand volume, or their bell-like quality when played hard. How you present them in your videos, demonstrates a good guitar pairing, and still doesn't show the full range of these strings. For $10 US, and the ruby-red bass strings, oo-la-la.

Thanks Bax. I love the clarity of these strings.

I've noticed from my recordings that the guitar sounds as if it has less sustain than it does to my ears.

If the recorder was sensitive enough to pick up all of the sustain, likely there would be a distracting ambient hiss. What I was most interested in hearing was for the clarity of the mids and highs to show themselves on a sensitive guitar, and they do come across in a good representation.

The basses don't sound quite as lively as the trebles. Do you find that to be the case in person? How do you think the basses compare to Hannabach basses?

interesting video.... Can you give me some idea of the diameter of these strings as compared to carbon such as Savarez Alliance?

They are similar in diameter to carbon strings, thinner than nylon:

in mm, the Rubinos are: 0.65, 0.79, 0.92

I quite like the basses. They are deep and lush. They are not bright basses, if that is what you like.

Thanks for that insight.

If one were looking for bright basses, what would you recommend?

When I tried the the Pro Arte Carbon strings I found the basses to be very bright. But I have dabbled more in trebles than I have in basses.

For a while I used Agustine Red basses and they were not very bright.

I also like the Knobloch double silver basses, they lasted a long time and were not very bright.

For the clarity of their basses, paired with a bone saddle.

Galli Titanio Genius GR40 Hard
La Bella 2001 Hard

I've only tried the Cantiga Normal basses on a Cervantes Crossover 1 S/R with a corian saddle, so I don't know them across a variety of guitars. Perfect strings for the configuration, volume and clarity-wise.

Great job on the Piedmont Blues. It suits you well!
I'm partial to Piedmont Blues. As a 15 year old, I had the privilege of spending the afternoon in Piedmont Blues Master Guitarist John Jacksons Fairfax station home listening and learning. I even got to play his Gibson J-50. He was such a kind soul!

Vance, seeing that you met Mr. Jackson I think you would really enjoy a film called Blues Houseparty - Music, Dance, and Stories By Masters of the Piedmont Blues. I'm pretty sure I watched it on Amazon Prime, and it was really good. Here is a link to the DVD--currently unavailable, but it has a good description. https://www.amazon.com/Blues-Housepa.../dp/B000FP2ZFS
