Video Log: Diversity of Styles and Sounds
Since youtube is so useful, (can you believe it's only been around for 9 years?) I thought it would be cool to post what things catch your attention, played on nylon.
Here's 3 distinctly different styles, all played on nylon strings. They each have something special to offer. Andrew York: (Who can look that cool and play classical guitar?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV7TA0OSrik Luiz Bonfa: (I used to watch Mike Douglas for treasures like this. One of the pioneers of Bossa Nova.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qr12M8Ua_iA Chet Atkins: (Laying that thumb in there on a fiddle tune.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvCPLPSO4iE Seems there are a lot younger players on here than older. What has caught your attention on nylon? Post away! |

Yes. That's what I'm talking about. So many different uses and styles on nylon. I'm really impressed with Jonathan Butler, his voice and his chops.
Another nylon string styling: Habib Koite. I've seen him twice in concert and it's hard to sit still. My son introduced me to him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4VRGALZdBA Another group to hear that you can't sit still while watching: Incendio. Very cool music. Here, Jim Subblefield uses a pick, but he's also extremely adept at fingerstyle flamenco techniques. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVXlfP5G8dU More, anyone? |

A few more here.
There may be some different opinions here, but it's what you make of it. I first saw these guys in concert about 10 years ago. I wasn't judging their technique or the music. I had a great time in the audience, and they did this song. Hard not to be moved by the music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQfN5...eature=related On another side, this really is cool. I always thought I'd be a folk singer like Paul. Didn't happen. But the technique of how he played, as well as his voice, drew me to this music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OCnHNk2Hac Last edited by David Hilyard; 04-17-2010 at 09:40 AM. |
