it's usually one of the first things that I notice. I've changed out tuners on most of my guitars for looks/stability. Changed out a few sets of pins for looks also.

My 610 taylor I exchanged the stock gold tuners for a nice set of engraved Gotoh tuners with higher tuning ratio (1:21)
Not only helps with tuning stability, but makes the guitar stand out.

I exchanged the chrome tuners on my taylor 210 with the original gold stock tuners on my 610. exchanged the plastic truss rod cover with a taylor rosewood cover. exchanged the plastic bridge pins with some taylor rosewood bridge pins. exchanged the chrome strap pin on neck with taylor gold one. All for aesthetics.

Makes me feel good to play a great looking guitar, not to mention all of the people who have made good mention of them.

but that's just me.

They are normally too tiny to observe when from a distance. If they are close enough, I will look at them, just like you do.

From a distance, I will normally try to make out the brand of the guitar. What top wood it is made of....and how the tone of the guitar sounds.

I notice, if they are in camera.

Whenever I see someone playing acoustic on TV I always try to see what they are playing. Usually I can't tell because they generally don't show the headstock so I have to try to guess by the pick guard if the guitar has one.

If its a good instrumental player I'll listen more than look. If its just another singer then its guitar first, music second.
