there is a Webber on reverb that someone had added epoxy to the neck to make it wider. They also did a bunch of other alterations that pretty much rendered the guitar worthless. Shame because it was probably a really nice guitar. Just promise not to do that to yours.

a thought
Some folks got no shame. And I thought peddling used cars was bottom-feeding.

If I were to try such a thing (and I would not) I would remove the neck and saw it in half lengthwise. Then laminate a center strip and re-install. Re-contour the finished piece to my preferences. But I would not do this either. It is major surgery and fraught with potential issues, not the least of which is the truss rod and fretboard inlays. Plus all the frets would have to be replaced. Sounds like more work than the guitar would be worth, even without counting any value for your labor.
It would be easier to carve an entirely new neck of the right width and contour. I'm not a luthier, nor do I play one on TV. |

This is how I widened a neck a bit that was too narrow years ago:
Pulled out the frets carefully and sanded the neck flat on both sides. Glued two strips of wood with titebond on the sides of the neck and purfling strips on both sides of the fretboard. Then I sanded and varnished the neck and installed new frets. Everything holds to this day and the changes are not visible. ---> But splitting the neck in the middle would have been better and more elegant, as Steve described above.

Where's the Unsee button? The neck joint and all those weird patches creep me out.

I wonder if we'll find out if anything was ever done?
This is a 5 year old thread.😁
