I love that one. I once read a joke (which most of us have probably heard but it’s topical so I’ll post it): What’s the difference between a rocker and a jazz guitarist? The rocker plays 3 chords for 3000 people, while the jazz guitarist plays 3000 chords for 3 people. |

I am glad I don’t play for money.

I have no idea who said it, and I probably have it a little wrong but I like this one;
Above the 5th fret is the upper register Below it is the Cash Register! |

I play Cats in the Cradle often but don't bother with a capo and that's up at the same place Harry Chapin played it with a capo - 7th fret.
Also My Sweet Lady; Rocky Mountain Suite (Cold Nights in Canada); Poems, Prayers and Promises; Rocky Mountain High; Peace Train - there's probably more but that's enough. David

Regardless, I do spend quite a bit of time above the 5th; just in the last couple days I can think of playing the following: Here comes the sun Hallelujah (Buckley version) Wanted Dead or Alive Fragile Sir Duke All of which go far above the 5th.

I frequently play above the 7th fret. Which is why I'm disappointed in my Martin OMC-15ME; it sounds fabulous as a "strummer" near the nut, but go up high and it loses action and tone.

I took all my guitars out and looked at them from the first fret to the fifth fret and I didn't see no money anywhere. But I did find a dollar bill tip stashed away in one of my guitar cases from a busking event.

What does "it loses action" mean? It probably just needs a setup.

This is exactly why I love the tone of an acoustic archtop so much. Yeah, I know, there is no low end bass, very thin, but once you begin playing above the seventh fret, this is where the clearity and vibrant tone of this body design really shines. Far more pleasant for jazz and blues runs on my L-7 than when I was playing flat tops like the Advanced Jumbo I used to own .

Yes, probably. I'm going to set it up (or have it set up, more likely) before I put it on the block. That may change my mind, though.

Well, most of the time I will climb up the neck as a tab is written.
But, as a fingerstylist, I am trying to make my own arrangements climbing the scales up the neck with the I dea of exploring the CAGED system. I got acoustics with cutaways to do so.

That was exactly what came to my mind as well.
That, and "autoharp". |
