"The only think that I think could be better are the dots on the side of the neck. "

Godin finishes over the side dots, giving them that dark look. You can clean them up with just a little lacquer thinner on a Q-tip.

Very nice!

What material is the top? Carved or bent? I should know more about these guitars but don't...now 1950 Kays and Harmonys, I know about them. <g>

I can't resist, since this is an archtop thread, Christmas, or Hanukah in my case, came a few days early this year. Photos of my Collings Archtop, wife is the model http://www.flickr.com/photos/14520418@N03/

That's a very pretty guitar and sorely tempting; trouble is I just know I wouldn't keep it beyond the honeymoon period!
The acoustic round-wound bronze strings would be a good choice and are what I use on my acoustic arch tops. John Pearse's strings. He told me he'd use the mediums if it was his guitar.

However, I have a couple of acoustic archtops with pickups and I don't always play plugged in, and I was told by a jazz musician I liked that for the best combination of plugged in or acoustic, to use T-I Jazz BeBop strings. These are round-wound nickel. I like these a lot and they do sound good both ways.

I heard some really great guitar work in the French Quarter in New Orleans last week and the guitarist was playing a beat up Kay, ply top, but the neck had been reset.

He had light bronze on it and he didn't know where the pickup came from but it was definitely a magnectic pickup and not made for bronze.

There are so many ways of getting wonderful music from these things...it just takes the right sort of guy.

I generally play straight bar chords on my acoustic arch tops -- and then I become 18 again and back playing in a south Texas honky-tonk -- that was advertised as a VFW hall.

Ain't guitars wonderful!

Wow! That is a great looking guitar!

Congratulations! And enjoy it, as I'm sure you will.
