This kind of wood allegedly grows in North Havana, but I'm pretty sure this example grew more to the south.

Here are the sides glued to the blocks, but not yet peone-connected to the top. This shows how little persuasion is needed to get the wood to follow the template. Now I go make the peone.

Rotfl! . I thought no one Got that joke.

All kidding aside I'll have to ask the tree commission of there's any Cuban hog .around. I know for a fact that there is a ton of poinciana which when forsaken has incredible figure almost like koa,.and there's a ton of lignum vitae which would work for bridge plates, nuts, saddles, etc.

When I asked the tree peeps in town about the "mahogany" that is here they couldn't tell me if it was S. Mahogani or S. Macrophyllia, but my suspicion is the former. In person or seems the least likely tree to yield board feet bc it branches all over the place.

More digging is needed. .stay tuned!

Since I began watching Bruce work I always enjoy the tape design selection. Didn't know what mine was going to be. The Giraffe skin theme is awesome Bruce.

Closed the Cuban/Euro single 0 today. Though it would be yesterday, but replaced the upper bout back brace for better cutaway clearance.

The parchment label is soaked in Shellac to make defacing it unlikely as the years pass. Makes it look antique!

Just tellin' like it is!

The next steps are to rout the binding/purfling channels the top and then bend the binding.

Love that Cuban back. Gonna come alive under finish.

With the box together, time has come to watch the paua go on this top! As many of you know, I'm not just a fan of cigars!
