Default Here We Go.....

Been building Telecasters for the past 25 years as I came up with new ideas but decided I have enough of them so decided to unroll the 00-28VS plans I got about 10 years ago and take a stab at it - haven't built anything acoustic since an archtop that I built in about 1993. Went out today and bought a chunk of real nice African mahogany (11' x 9" x 2") - I figure I can get a couple 00's out of it and probably a couple Teles, too. Probably start milling the lumber tomorrow so I can start the resaw and thicknessing process. I doubt Martin ever made a 00-17VS but that's what I'm shooting for in remembrance of my first guitar, an inherited 1936 0-17 when I was 14 in 1960. All 'hog' top and back - no binding - slot head - Greven OM pickguard if I can find one - pyramid bridge.

Does anyone know what I can use for that old Martin dark grain filler color?

Pics to follow at some point...... wish me luck.

I use por-o-pac filler from Behlens/Mohawk, the darkest color they have it might be rosewood or some other name but it is black in the pores and looks pretty cool on unstained mahogany.

Hi Skip,
With all those Teles under your belt I think your chances of success are high, but good luck wished in any case.

The 00 size is my current favorite; I recently posted the construction drawing of the one I recently built, in between an 0 and a 00 which turned out to be a great guitar. In case you missed the topic it's here:

There might be something in the design you might wish to incorporate unless you're fixed on the plan you have.

Thanks! That's about what I was looking for. My guitar was darker but I think it was caused by aged lacquer and a hard life.
