Wearing my Cynic Hat at the moment, but that's the kind of article that could have been written by Googling rather than doing.

For the kind of person who's at the experience level where they might seek out an article like this one, I'd suggest they back away from specifics a bit, and go at it a little more "Zen":

1. Do I like the balances?
2. If I don't, what do I want to hear more/less off?
3. If I want to hear more or less of something, is it the whole thing or just one aspect? (that's where EQ can come into play)
4. Is my real issue that I've used the wrong instrument/don't like the performance/hate my own voice/the arrangement stinks/etc.?
5. Am I going to do something about #4, or play the cards I'm dealt?

Great Article KevWind. Thanks so much for posting this.
Often I find a lot of articles are not written in the, "to the point mode", as they should be. Often they are lined with confusing speculations and subcategories.
Not this article. So very well written. Certainly left me with a much clearer understanding of how the new generation of EQ's work. And why we might consider fist using the old fashion EQ's first.
Good section on why Cutting & not boosting, might yield less problematic results.
Equalization might be the hardest category for myself to understand. Actually, I am quite afraid of it. And that is why I work hard to try and get the sound right from the start.
Alas, I know that in reality, when mixing multi instruments together Equalization will probably be absolutely necessary.
