Default NGD ~ Fender Robert Cray Strat

Here's a cool guitar I found on Craigslist recently..

It's a 2011 model in barley played condition. I don't think I've seen too many stop tail bridges on Strats.... I dig it!

Really like the tone from the stock "vintage" pickups.. 5 way switch. Neck is a C Shape with some meat to it...early 60's feel and vibe to it. Even has the 3 ply mint pickguard and truss rod adjust at the heal. Old style Fender logo on headstock too.

Fender and Cray did this one right... Nice appointments. Different than typical Mexi Strats. To me it's very similar to the '62 USA Reissue that I had years ago. Except for the stop tail and the neck is thicker on this one.

Lastly, This was one of the best CL experiences I ever had. The seller was great guy. Invited me to his work place.. Set me up in a private room with a nice amp. On top of that.. he made me a fantastic deal and then threw in some extras. What's not to like!

OK.. Back to Jammin'

Played a couple of those when they first came out, kinda hard to find since; you're 100% right about the pickups and appointments - neck is a little thicker than I like on a Fender, but usable - and if they made them in candy apple red I'd own one right now...

Use it well, often, and LOUD...

...it's not actually a stop tailpiece it's a string through "hardtail" strat...I recently built one...a stop tailpiece has the strings actually ending at the tailpiece...in any case I've always liked the Cray model...love the necks on them and pickups sound great...congrats on the nice score...

Thanks everyone for the replies.

JPatrick ~ thanks for the clarification on the "string through" vs stop tail.. You are correct.

As for the neck... I cannot play thin necks anymore. Since my fret hand gets cramped with thin necks.

This one is meaty.. But it's not over the top. I have an older Fender Baja Tele .. Now that's a baseball bat !

Congratulations! I like hard/stop tails, meaty necks, and heavier strings. Stability and tone. It looks great too!

Color me envious. Fender should produce more hardtail Strats, especially in the <$1000 range....

Nice guitar Jake. I knew there was a Robert Cray Strat out there, but I was never sure what made it different from the other signature models. What size frets are on it?

Hey Johnny - Yeah there are actually 2 different RC models..
There's a Custom shop model that goes for like $2-3K

Frets on my MIM ..
According to Fender's website are Medium Jumbo..
Neck is a '60's 'C" with 9.5" radius

Now that I have the guitar...
I will need to learn to make this sorta face.
(then I will be about 1% of way to match RC's tone )

That looks like a great guitar! I think a hardtail strat would be wonderful especially if you don't use the trem arm on a regular strat.
