Default Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne Passes

Adam Schlesinger, Fountains of Wayne co-founder, singer of "Stacy's Mom," and co-writer of "That Thing You Do" from the movie of the same name has passed from COVID-19 complications. Only 52 years young.

Amazing, great talent, will be missed.

I did not hear if he had some pre-existing condition, seems so young to succumb.

Agreed - super talented guy and gone way to young. I also had not heard of any pre-existing condition.

That guy had some kind of voodoo and if he had a nickel for every time those songs played in people's minds he would win. I sang them both the other night as a tribute and they are still playing in my head! Rest In Peace, Adam!

...I recently did the song Hackensack he wrote (that Katy Perry covered), on one of FB live shows. Sad news of a gifted writer... may he be at peace.

For me, “That Thing You Do,” is one heck of an ear worm. I’ve always thought of it as an early Beatles song taken to even a higher level (heresy, I know, but it’s an incredible song).

I'd owe him a stack of nickels for sure.

"I saw you talkin' to Christopher Walken..."

Definitely an ear worm - it's been in constant rotation in my noggin for the last couple of days. Loved the movie, as well. Tom Hanks' tribute was sweet - "There would be no Playtone without Adam Schlesinger..." Very true.

I think I have all the Fountains of Wayne albums as well as the soundtrack CD from "That Thing You Do." I have enjoyed his music a great deal; I was saddened to find out about his death from Covid-19.

What a shame at such a relatively young age.
