Kinda how I felt, too, frank. But I understand that the owners switched to preformed burgers back then. Pity.

As a Whittier lad,
I forgot about Whirly's - it later became a used car lot. LOL - I think Whirly's was still owned by the Nixon family .... the owner's name was Milhouse.

Which High School & Class??

In my era it was Whittier, La Serna, Cal Hi, Sierra, Lowell, La Habra, Pioneer, Pius X, El Rancho, Montebello, Pico Rivera, and maybe a couple others in a 5-mile radius

I'm Sierra '67.

Best restaurant burger I ever had. Had to be at the Sunset Grille. on Sunset Blvd. Hollywood Ca.

A butcher paper wrapper of about 3lb. of hamburger, was taken out of an old 50's style refrigerator.

So close to a homemade burger.

Last time there it was next door to the Hollywood Guitar Center in Hollywood.

If anyone my age lived in Northern, IL/Southern, WI in the 60's and 70's you likely remember "Geri's". It was launched by a former McD VP and followed the same business model complete with characters. McD had the Big Mac while Geri's had the Big G. The food was every bit as good, but you can guess the rest of the story. There was one down the street from my Grandmas and with a dollar I could get a burger, fires and a small coke and still come home with 40 cents.

We have them up here now....WhiteCastle....and boiling peanuts is easy in the era of slow-cookers.

You hit on two of my must-haves, as well!

Not if you can’t find fresh green ones….I’ve been ordering from a farm near Macon, but the shipping was a little too much this year. Tried the dehydrated, boil in the bag ones and really liked them—good price and free shipping!

Just finished a “boil-in-the-bag” batch. Our wal-mart gets raw peanuts, but its summer only.

Nice! I really like the boil in the bag—probably 95% as good as fresh. Really appreciate having another option!! And there’s a White Kastle near my daughter’s house outside St Paul—I need to take advantage of that more!
