Those look super comfortable!

I was turned onto tall frets by the late, great Allan Holdsworth who, by common consensus, had technique beyond belief. Allan used Dunlop 6100 and the effect is rather like playing a scalloped fretboard - your fingertips don't touch the fretboard so it's fabulously easy to fret those difficult barres and stretches...especially for fumblers like me.

Sounds counterintuitive, but high frets are more comfortable to play, as long as you don't press too hard (which = bad technique anyway).

I used Jescar 55095 for my David Merrin classical and they'll be on my upcoming Taran.
What did Ralph use for yours Jonny?

Cheers,
Steve

Ralph uses Dunlop, he says the highest available.

It's being finished now - I did request french polish for the top, but I think that was perceived as a joke, so it will be safe in your hands.

He says that reversed kerfing does add a considerable amount of stiffness to the sides explaining why he does it.

Default Bown

If I were to order a guitar from Ralph I would want it French polished, If he wasn’t able to do that I would be happy to take it unfinished and have someone else do it, I suspect he wouldn’t be happy with that though.

Dave Wilson (who also finishes Stefan Sobell's guitars) doing his magic.

I'm hoping it will be, not long now. Lacquer will be complete this week.

Gorgeous!

I'm sure it'll be lovely ... he says with some confidence, as the custodian of a Bown OMX in Lutz/Braz (which I suspect you've come across, when it was in SteveH's, or Richard T's, or indeed a few others, possession). A guitar that feels like it can do pretty much anything (well, at least in Clive's hands, if not mine ).

I really need to get my hands around that guitar again.
The quality of the BRW was mindblowing. Perfectly quartered IIRC?

Cheers,
Steve
