uploading a song?
If I'm understanding the directions, a song must be on youtube or soundcloud. I can't upload an mp3. Is this correct?

You have to use a site that has a web address (soundcloud, etc). I have my own website with my own url and can use that. I also use youtube.

Think of it as providing a link to the song, not an upload. Both soundcloud and youtube are free to use and will give you the url link you can use for us here. You upload to them and use the link here.

I remember feeling some trepidation about this, but it wasn't bad at all.  As Derek mentioned, you could set up your own website, but that is considerably more difficult for a variety of reasons, such as having to learn the programming protocols for the web platform. Even then, many people on their websites still use other hosts such as Soundcloud or YouTube to actually store the audio or video files, because, again, it costs money to store a lot of files on your own website. You might want to upload a wav file to soundcloud, not an mp3. Most DAWs export/render both types of music file.
