But I'm guessing your PZ-Pre is probably itself connected to a mixer or preamp or amp that is grounded, so the mixer or preamp or amp provides the earth ground to the signal chain.

True, I usually connect it via xlr to a Mackie DL1608 or an active speaker, also with xlr.

I had the same problem with the Es.2 in my Taylor 12 fret.
I sent a video to Taylor showing me switching between another guitar with baggs anthem that was dead quiet to the Es-2 that hummed. Taylor then sent me a new pickup free of charge. Awesome support! Unfortunately it didnīt help the problem. The hum wasnīt that bad though but the guitar was brand new so quite annoying. And Iīve seen several threads about hum with Es-2 so there sure seem to be something thatīs not correct with the grounding in that system. Too bad, it sounds great. |

I just bought a new Taylor GT811e. It has the same hum as my other Taylor with ES2. As my discussion with Taylor support confirmed, it's just inherent in the design of the ES2 system unless you're connecting to grounded gear.
