Default Special Luthier

Does it take a special luthier to setup or fix intonation on a carbon fiber guitar? Or, is a luthier a luthier regardless of the guitar's makeup?

so first things first

- Luthier's build guitars, and can also do setups!

- Setup techs take care of "setups", by definition, they are not luthiers regardless of how GOOD they may do the work..

Anyways.. I don't think it matters, setups are as you suggest, "Setups"

Adjusting truss rods (if a CF guitar has one), shaping and adjusting saddle height, checking nut slots, dressing frets, etc... all things one might put under the category "setup", aren't really any different on a CF than a wood guitar.

I even had someone install different fretboard side markers on my Composite Acoustics. No different than a wood neck, apparently.

Certain things, especially those that involve drilling into the body where the CF weave may need reinforcement, might be more challenging--but certainly not impossible.

My local luthier did a setup on my Journey OF660. Did not matter that it was a carbon fiber. So much better now. Adjusted truss rod, the nut, bridge and pins for a better fit, and adjusted the low saddle just a wee bit.
