Default My boy and I do a Mavericks cover

This Mavericks tune, "By the Time" snuck up on me one day when I had an old playlist playing in the background and I thought "I can probably learn that one and the vocals are in my range". Mostly accurate.

For those who don't know or appreciate Raul Malo, he is one of my top 5 vocalists of all time. He had a fantastic pandemic series of videos he made at home last year playing with his teenage kids that are too much fun.

Recorded live with the ipad mic and video together so no mixing like all our stuff. The kid just learned it a few minutes before.

Well, that is very cool!

Great job on this; great sound, too! Good job on the vocal and both of you sound good on your guitars.

Your son is really getting a good handle on his electric guitar! Very nice tone!

And how cool that you and your son can do this together! I think music is what kept my son and I talking to each other through some of the tough times. It really helps, I think!

Take care!

Thanks Blews. I’m a Mavericks fan from the early 90s. Live shows are so much fun. Raul tours solo occasionally and his voice is the featured instrument. And great song selections. Thanks for listening and commenting.

Great stuff, Joe, your son’s playing has really progressed and I love your vocal, especially when that high note comes around! I don’t know too much about the Mavericks, but I really like that song Swingin’ when I hear it on the radio!

Glad to hear from you and your son

Man I love these. And I only knew one Mavericks song before this (I Wanna Know), so I have a new rabbit hole to go down.

Kudos to you and your son.

Thanks Glenn. My son is a high-school senior and I'm not sure what I'm going to do starting next Sept. Giving both my son's an early start on their musical education has been one of my biggest rewards as a parent. It's a love they will always have. I'm picturing myself as an old man and the two or three of us getting the chance to play together is part of that image. Makes me smile.

Thanks Bob. Here is a video from Raul Malo’s quarentunes he posted last year with his two sons and a house guest. And he is playing bass and singing backup! Ventura Highway.

Tell me you when you stop smiling. Its too much fun!
