You really have me g.a.s.ing for one of those OM's. Just curious if you have a favorite out of the 3? I bet you haven't stopped playing them since you got them!

See you say that Songwriter and it is really giving me the urge to order one of those. Just curious as to what the neck is like? Which of your Martins would you compare the neck to?

thanks,
Debbie

I met an older pro guitarist yesterday who is a Martin guy. After awhile we started talking about other brands and I mentioned P*W. He immediately stopped and said he'd played one last year: "that was the best guitar I've ever played."

I know you didn't ask me Debbie but I'll offer my 2 cents. I have the D and HD Brazilian models. The necks are very comfortable full C shape. There is a little bit of "V" as you head up the neck but it's not "pointy" like Martin's Heel & Barrel or even as much as their Mod-V in my opinion. Hope you get one of Wes & Ben's guitars. I think you'd love it!

Debbie, I'll jump in here too if you don't mind.

I own one of the 96 Martin 000-18 Authentics. To me, the Pre*War OM neck is a near identical copy of the Martin neck... 1937 style full C to soft V shape.

The Pre*War D neck felt slightly thicker toward the heel but still a 1937 C to soft V profile. It is a touch less full than the D-18 Authentic 1937 neck, if you've ever held one of those.

Bottom line, if you like shallow depth necks, you're not going to like the Pre*War. On the other hand, I wish more people had exposure to the necks of these two discontinued Martin Authentics I own. There is nothing else like them in Martin's entire modern lineup, nor on the current crop of active Authentics. They are the best necks Martin has ever made, IMHO, and Pre*War appears to have modeled their necks after historic Martins similar to these.

Well this has really got me thinking about one of these guitars. Just wondering if getting the Brazilian rosewood is really worth the extra $3000 or if the aged Indian Rosewood would still be a fantastic guitar and comparable to the Brazilian model? I don't know if any of you all have compared their two rosewoods?

thanks,

Debbie

I don't know about the OM's but I might like my mahogany D model a little bit more than my Braz HD model. I know that sounds crazy but it's voice is just amazing.

I’m with Jim. I actually preferred the mahogany OM to a Braz 000 but it was very close and the difference was pretty subtle to my ear.

I've never been hung up on neck shapes...this is tough for me...the "D" and the "OM" necks are almost identical..and they are not nearly as thick up near the body as my 1937 Authentic is. These 2 guitars necks feel more like the neck on my 49' oo-18....the neck on my 42' D-18 feels smaller to me...these two guitars have a C shape...but it's just the right size. The neck on the "J" to me doesn't feel as full of a C...Hope that helps....you really can't go wrong...I'd still love to play any of their dreds with the Braz. back and sides....
