This is a genuine photo of Django Reinhardt's left hand (no photoshopping!):
 Obviously he wasn't actually playing anything there, it was a gag for the photographer. But of course, he played pretty much everything with just two fingers on that hand, the other two being crippled. And was arguably the greatest jazz guitarists of all. Proving you don't need four fingers

Speaking of using less than 4 fingers, I don't recall ever seeing Eric Clapton use his pinky to fret any notes on his numerous solos and guitar work throughout his entire career.
He was/is a 3 finger guy, at least on electric, and he did pretty good for himself.
