Default Tony Vines Guitars 2023

Hello everyone!
I just recently finished setting up the new shop and I'm ready to go! I'd like to share my guitar making journey with all of you. Hopefully I can make some new friends along the way. I will also continue to update the new website as we go. Additionally, I've got some cool projects in the works and a new SJ model too. More on that stuff coming soon!

Great to see you on here Tony! I've played quite a few of your instruments over the years and been impressed with them every time.

Thanks Joe, Tim and SuperB23!

Today in the shop was mostly cleaning and organizing a bit more. I also took some time to work on one of my SL models and a multi scale prototype.
I recently purchased some wood for back and side material. Its common name is Brown Ebony but its real name is Libidibia paraguariensis.....say that thee times fast! I'm pretty excited about it. When I purchase wood I usually set it in a place where I can look at it and think about how I'm gonna use it while I work. I gotta admit it was a bit of a distraction today. I either need to crank up the saw or hide it away! It's kinda big so hiding it away is probably not an option. oh yeah...2.5 inches thick.

Another days work. I had a chance to use the laser today. I am soooo tech challenged! I am happy with the result though.

Nice work on your badge and signature. What laser do you have Tony? That is one tool that I wish I had but I never could justify the cost. I am sure prices have come down but when I looked into a 60W tube laser they were north of $15K. Then the laser tube had to be replaced every 5 years after that. I know the diode lasers are pretty reasonable but I am not sure they have the power to cut ebony and that was my goal when I looked at them.

Hi Tim, I picked up one of those diode lasers. X Tool. It does great on the engraving. I will cut pretty good but I dont know bout Ebony. I did cut some 1/4 inch Coco but it was not very clean. What thickness were you thinking on the Ebony?

.060” Ebony requires a minimum of 60 watts from a tube laser. I’m pretty sure the smaller diode lasers won’t cut it. I wanted one for inlay work but I couldn’t afford it so I’m still doing it, the old fashioned way, by hand

Jim, Paul and Steve, Thank you for your warm welcome!

Tim,
I did a test last night and found that my X Tool 20 watt diode laser will cut .060 ebony. Its pretty clean and I didnt take much time to mess with the settings. The back side is a bit cleaner than the front but it will probably do even better than the photo if I took time to adjust some of the settings. X Tool also makes a 40 watt version too. Hope this helps my friend...

Hi Tony,

There happens to be a 2007 Colorado model you made for sale in my area.
Happy to see you here.
