Things you see but just don't register in your brain...
We're having work done in the house, painting and then having a vinyl wood-like flooring put in to replace our 10+ year old wall to wall carpeting in our family room and in the computer room. I use what was a small bedroom that is adjacent and opens out to our family room as a music/computer room.
I'm staring at the cable tv connection that is going into our modem that sits on a level of my corner computer "station/desk". I'm getting that "what's wrong with this picture" feeling. I follow the cable down with my eyes and then I remember that the previous owner, instead of putting in a wall outlet for the cable, drilled into the hardwood flooring within an inch of the wall and ran the cable into the basement for connection. I, in my genius, did not follow up on it and fix it. So it sat for 18 years. Fortunately for me my computer is new enough to have a lan card installed so I just pushed that darn wire down through the hole in the floor and relocated the modem in the basement. Whew. The wife isn't home and she'll never know, By October the new flooring will be installed and my secret will be safe......

I just rerouted one cable in my house. The cable company tech made the outrageous statement to my wife (I wasn't home) that he'd have to run a cable around the outside of the house to the bedroom my new tenant (MIL) is occupying. I went into the attic and drilled a 1/2" hole (paddle blade) into the wall she wants the TV on and ran the cable down between the studs where I put a cable terminal plate. It was hot up there (Florida) so I took a portable AC unit up there and got the temp down before making the search to find the exact location to drill the hole. The cable company tech didn't want to be in the attic so he dodged that bullet. Those cable companies don't care about the exterior of people's home. They'll mount boxes, antennas and cables anywhere and people will think they have no choice in the matter. Au contraire.

Just the smaller room (going over the old floor). It won't match up right.

Oak? Maple?
Except for the finished attic and second floor hallway, which are pine, the rest of our house (not including the front foyer - a combination of ceramic 1" hex and 3/4" square tile, and unfinished basement - concrete) are 2 1/4" white oak strips.
