Default Elevator music....

I was warming up the other day and stumbled onto a couple of nice sounding "positional changes" for lack of a better word. Not quite melody, but close. I'd like to expand it, but I have a feeling it's just going to be "elevator" music. Melody is so tough.

Default What's wrong with elevator music?

Barry:

I'm not sure what this post is about, but you do great stuff! Did you write down those positional changes? One thing leads to another -- well almost always. Melody comes in different forms (arguable no doubt!).

Back to those positional changes...is that a beginning of a humable tune?

Get back to us on this. We all wait with bated breath for the next installment...

Oh, and by the way, all I do is elevatorable. I'm O.K. with that.

Here is a song that was just a 2 bar riff I kept playing, trying to get it. My wife finally said, "O.k. it works, what comes after that?"

What else was I to do but finish the thought?

Regards,
D

David, that sounds good!

I did record the initial idea as I was recording a Petteway cover at the time. I actually have an intro, an A B and C part believe it or not.

I threw a rough recording together just to get this thing out of my system for a while, lol. I may steal bits of it later for other things.

Barry.....just relax and stay with it and I'm sure more will emerge! (Yeah, easy for me to say!) Yes, Melody is elusive!

There are times when I just play what I've got over and over........over days or maybe weeks, and if I'm in a good "zone" and mood and don't force it, my fingers and intuition will kick in with something complimentary to what's already on the books. Maybe a little theory, maybe not. I'm in the midst of one of those now!

Good luck!

I did a rough recording of it (see my second post). It's not really where I wanted to go, this had a life of its own sort of,

I think your method of letting it bake for a while is a good idea!

I have the recording of it now and I was notating it as I was developing it so I have that as well.

It's a start anyway.

Ya just never know where noodeling position changes ( or progressions ) may lead.

This one started life as a simple GDCG GDCG - G C D G - GDCG noodling progression, capo'ed at the third fret...... the up tempo , and melody came later as did the lyrics

And eventually turned into this

Nice job!

If I had to write lyrics too I'd shoot myself
