Default Yet another "I won't back down" version

Recorded live at the Fiddler's Hearth open mic in South Bend 4-25-2018. I'm playing my GA3 and singing the lead. My buddy Rico is playing bass and providing background vocals.

I've been playing this one a lot lately. Sorry it's drenched in reverb! This was when we were still experimenting with streaming video with quality audio (it's also before I bought FCP, so the video slowly gets more and more out of sync with the audio).

Well guys I finally got around to adding another TP song. This is Refugee, and it’s done with the same vibe as the Mike Campbell version he did a year or so ago on SiriXM… hope you like it. I’m playing my J45 and my new electric… a Reverend Trickshot.

Great version Sal. Stripped down and acoustic shows how the songwriting skills push through. And of course your playing and singing.

Never heard that tune played that way. It's a great stripped down acoustic version of what came into the world as an all out rocker. I gotta say, though, that one is so much fun to play with a roaring electric, it would be tough to be so restrained with it. But you really do it justice Sal. Glad I got the hear that!

What a fun cover. You somehow kept the emotion and angst of the song, yet stripped it down so well. Loved the subtle vocals that had such great tone. And the guitar work was solid.

Thanks for sharing

Cheers,

Dave

Nice job on this Ray. You definitely have a little of Tom Petty's spirit in there.

Thanks Glenn. I recorded it once and thought it sounded too slow. So I recorded it again making an effort to speed it up, but it sounded just as slow. Oh well, I liked the second version better, so not a total loss. I guess it's just a slow song...

Well done Ray!

Actually have a gig tomorrow night where we added Learning To Fly and You Don’t know how it feels…. If someone iPhones it, I’ll share. This mans catalog is Dylanesque. Miss him.

Thanks Sal. I thought I remembered you doing a recording of "You Don't Know How It Feels" a while back, I guess before this thread started. I recall it being typically excellent. I actually recorded that in the last couple of days also, along with "It'll All Work Out", but I liked "It's Good To Be King" more, probably because there's some lead playing on it to break up all of the vocals. The others are just basically rhythm and singing.

Yeah, I miss him too. Saw him for the first time in 1980, on the (Darn) the Torpedoes tour, and several times after, but not in the last 20 years or so. But his songs will always be there...
