I owned a classical guitar that had Palo Escrito back/sides. It had a nice tone and was interesting to look at. That guitar did have an odd smell, though I'm not sure if it was the Palo Escrito, the cedar (it didn't smell like cedar to me), or the lacquer.

GC in Kirkland WA had (maybe still has) a prototype Gibson dred with Palo Escrito. It was a good look, and a fine sound.

It's a Mexican rosewood; Fender even has a Telecaster made with this wood. It has a very pretty growth pattern.

Palo escrito, a wood often used for requintos, small guitars tuned to ADGCDA. Though it is a type of rosewood, Dalbergia palescrito, it doesn't sound like Indian or Brazilian rosewood.
Mexican rosewood is Dalbergia granadillo but many people use common names for more than one species of wood. |

I had a McElroy parlor made with palo escrito back and sides and it was an almost twin in tone to a Froggy Deluxe Parlor with BRW back and sides that I owned just previous to it.

a guitar shop in college station has the jumbo and dread fenders with spurce over palo. both are deeply discounted, if they had a small bodied one it would be mine. I think it is a very nice looking wood and has a sound that I think is nice. and those fenders are built a lot better than I had thought. they really are a nice guitar. at least the two I have seen are.

both woods are common in mexico, palo escrito can be high quality, some luthiers use 100 years old wood(abel for example, 6xxx a guitar) but in fact is use instead rose wood, like a second class or student classical guitar; the reason: sounds very nice, but it is verry fragil, easy to crash,,,granadillo we use it for the heads, can be a tonewood but is heavy. eblen |

Did somebody say Palo Escrito?
![]() Guitar sounds awesome, incidentally. The consigner is having serious thoughts of pulling it off the market.
