Default Advice on dual purpose condenser microphone: vocals, ac guitar in studio

Hi,
I have a Rode M3 which is nice sound wise, but is a bit too feedback sensitive when using it for my own vocals in a singer-songwriter live setup. And in my home studio where I use a (fantastict) NT1 for the voice I instead point the M3 to the guitar, but there it picks up too much of my voice.

So I would like a replace this microphone with one that does not pick up so much sound from sides. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Per

Ok, looking around a little myself, and as I like Røde, either the M2 or the S1 would probably be what I'm looking for. So the question is if the S1 is worth the price premium?!? For my dark voice where I try to express a lot I think so.

Any thoughts on the Røde S1 and M2?

/Per

If you want to get as much isolation as possible look for a mic that has a figure 8 polar pattern. Pointing the null (think of it as a blind spot) towards the voice will reject far more then a cardioid mic

Google “recording voice and guitar at the same time figure 8”

The figure 8 thing is a great for that - I used it many times.

Some more suggestions:

The old Sennheiser MD 441 is wonderful for that purpose (besides many others).

I even had great result with sensitive mics like Neumann KM 184 or Gefell M 300 on guitar while singing. Extremely close miking and using a high pass filter in the guitar mic is the way to go. Try that with your Rode before purchasing something different.
