12-string Question #2: 2 strings per peg?

I'm considering buying a Yairi 12-string, a DY-80 specifically:

The 2 strings per peg is an interesting feature - not many others do this. The advantages are obvious, but what disadvantages (if any) should I be aware of?

Also, the seller claims that the bridge is showing a bit of lift. How can this be? I thought the Yairi double bridge prevented lift...

If the picture you posted is the one, there’s definitely a gap at the back of the pin block. Whether or not it’s also ‘canted’, or leaning forward a bit isn’t clear.

Way back in the early 1900’s there were a few 12 strings that used 6 pins.

Clearly you’re obligated to loosen both to change 1 string, but otherwise it’s a simple system that works.

Very 1st thing I notice is the string spacing is not uniform - those 2 'B' strings are too close together.
Exactly what I wondered about when I saw a thread here recently with the new 6 pin Taylor 12-strings coming out.

At least it ‘proves’ that Taylor did not invent this method

Definitely a space at the back of the pin block. Also looks like who ever changed the strings last was sloppy about their work.

Look at B strings, they are next to each other. The block also appears to have some damage there. The spacing on the other courses is all over the place.

Yep, that's the one. I hadn't noticed the gap before. Here's another angle - it doesn't look like it's canted (at least not to my aging eyes)...

I can't see any lifting of the bridge either. That few also shows the uneven spacing of the strings.

But there is a positive note. The grain pattern on the sides is fantastic. The workmanship of the book matching of the sides is not at the expert level it is above. Gorgeous work there.

I thought that what may be damage might instead be some silk on the string, especially since the stringing is so sloppy. I probably should ask for clearer photos of that area. It's being sold at a very attractive price so it's hard to just walk away...
