I was at Woodstock and this weird guy was on the stage a couple of tables down from Steve and Ryan whom I already knew. I picked up on of his guitars, he just smiled, I sat down and within 2 minutes I said I wanted it (this was on Sunday the last day of the show), he just looked at me, smiled, and something like, well alright then and we made a deal. Who knew at that time we would become such good friends. He has come to each and every B.I.G., sold guitars at all of them, played at all of them, done demos, stayed at the house, I visited him at his shop as well, gone out eat with us, laughed so hard our stomach hurt at times making eating hard to do and garnering side long glances from other patrons (you know the looks, wishing you would leave so they could enjoy a nice meal), and played at my wedding making the lovely Kathy come to tears with her favorite song as she walked down the aisle (well sidewalk since there was not aisle). Since this is my last commission, and he happened to be the one doing it, I wanted something to commemorate the development from strangers to friends.

What a great story! I can't think of a better way to close out your collection. Going out on top is always a great way to go. i suspect this one will not see a lot of "wall time" but will be played, a lot for a long, long time. Congrats. This one is going to be special no doubt.

I met Wayne at this year's B.I.G. A great guy and someone anyone could become great friends with as well. Makes a mean guitar too everyone. Irvin guitars, check them out!

Thanks Wayne for the nice words.

Wonderful story, Tom. You collect friends very easily, so it doesn’t surprise me.

I am not so sure that is true, but I am glad we collected each other!

As anyone who has had a Wilborn built will know, moss does not grow under Ben's feet!

Back is glued on, such neat and clean work and wonderful craftsmanship, just a shame that this will not be seen again (well hopefully):

Glad to be of service, but no more plans unless things change.

The top is on and the box is closed. Please look at how Ben worked that sapwood on the sides and back into a cool feature. The set was big enough to allow him to plan it, but planning is one thing, having it come out so perfectly is another. If you did not know those were two separate pieces of wood you would think the back just folded over 90 degrees to form the sides. Expand the photo, the closer you look, the better it looks, that is craftmanship! We think it came out awesome.

Ben says the box is sounding really good and he is excited about this one for sure.

Thank you, as am I! We are still discussing the finishing that we had planned, not so sure what is going to happen with that, but it will be perfect once decided upon.
