Smile NGD - Irvin Guitars

Well, it's been 38 years this month since I last bought a new acoustic guitar, but I'm finally enjoying a new guitar day with my new Irvin Guitars SJ cutaway. It is a 2016 build that I've borrowed a number of times and finally decided to make officially mine.

Red cedar top:

Padauk back and sides:

Bocote headstock (and binding):

This guitar is quite light and very responsive. It is a small jumbo which is comparable to a Larrivee L-series. I had a Dazzo SBT installed.

I am thrilled to have this guitar. All the Irvin guitars I've played have been completely distinctive in tone and playability. There is an Irvin "parlor" that is the best parlor I have ever encountered (it is full scale with a smaller body).

Wayne Irvin Johnson is the luthier behind Irvin Guitars. He is a member of this forum, and super talented to boot. Anyone looking for a hand built guitar that leans towards the Larrivee-type of balance, sustain and responsiveness would do well to check him and his site out.

Now to PLAY!

Nice! I've played that guitar and it's really nice. I think Wayne is building some great guitars. He has one I've got my eye on as well.

Congrats.

Thanks, that is a big element of why I went for it - it could have been purchased by someone else, and I have some music to play on this guitar!
